Hockey School Program: Kawe Primary School… sticks down, let’s play!
This month we choose to talk about one primary school in Dar Es Salaam where we have started to teach hockey since February 2015. Kawe Primary School has been one of the last schools to be included in the school hockey development program, but already hockey has been recruited many fans among children!
Questo mese abbiamo scelto di parlare di una delle scuole elementari in Dar Es Salaam dove abbiamo iniziato a insegnare hockey da Febbraio 2015. La scuola elementare di Kawe è stata una delle ultime che abbiamo inserito nel programma di diffusione dell’hockey nelle scuole, ma già molti bambini ne sono diventati fans!

Hum…interesting this new sport!
Training is happening twice a week, after school time….The coach who is volunteering to teach hockey to these children is Mr. Osman Bairu, a former tanzanian hockey player and now sport teacher at FEZA international school. With some sticks and ball donated to him, he started to teach hockey in the public school of Kawe, in the suburbs of Dar Es Salaam.
Allenamento è due volte a settimana, dopo la scuola. L’allenatore, che si dedica ad allenare questi bambini nel suo tempo libero, è Mr. Osman Bairu, ex giocatore tanzaniano di hockey, che attualmente insegna educazione fisica presso la scuola Internazionale di FEZA. Grazie ad alcuni bastoni e palline donati, ha iniziato a insegnare hockey nella scuola pubblica di Kawe, nella periferia di Dar es Salaam.

Since the beginning of the hockey school program, in october 2014, a total of 12 schools among Dar es Salaam (the capital) and Lindi (in the South of Tanzania) have been started to play hockey (7 primary schools and 5 Secondary Schools), for a total of about 300 children and teenagers involved. Local hockey players, both male and female, are the the teachers of the pupils, a basic coaching course for local sport teachers has already been done in Lindi in february 2015 and one for sport teachers in Dar es Salaam will be done in the next months, in order to give them the basic knowledge of this sport so that they can teach hockey directly to the students.
Dall’inizio del programma di hockey nelle scuole, in ottobre 2014, hockey è stato introdotto in un totale di 12 scuole tra Dar es Salaam (la capitale) e Lindi (nel sud della Tanzania) di cui 7 scuole elementari e 5 scuole secondarie. Circa 300 bambini e ragazzi sono coinvolti nelle attività. Giocatori e giocatrici tanzaniani sono direttamente loro gli insegnanti di hockey dei bambini. Un primo corso base per insegnare hockey è stato organizzato per alcuni insegnanti di educazione fisica a Lindi lo scorso febbraio 2015 e un altro corso per gli insegnanti di Dar es Salaam è in pianificazione. In questo modo, fornendo agli insegnanti stessi di educazione fisica formazione adeguata sulle tecniche base dell’hockey, potranno poi loro insegnare direttamente agli studenti questo sport.
