For hockey in Tanzania last weekend has been a joyful one! Why? For the first time ever in the history, the President of Africa Hockey Federation came to Tanzania in an official visit. Mr. Seif Ahmed, currently president of AHF, has landed in Dar Es Salaam on the 18th of April and stayed with us for three fantastic days. During his visit he watched two games among local teams, met the players and also expressed a really good impression on the level of hockey played. Although, he said, the really bad conditions of the pitches here is a big problem that obstacle the development of hockey in Tanzania, and a turf pitch is an urgent need.
Per l’hockey in Tanzania lo scorso weekend è stato memorabile. Perchè? Per la prima volta nella storia, il Presidente della Federazione Africana di Hockey è venuto in visita ufficiale in Tanzania. Mr. Seif Ahmed, attuale presidente delle AHF, è atterrato a Dar es Salaam il 18 Aprile ed è stato con noi per tre giorni. Durante la sua visita, ha assistito a due partite amichevoli giocate tra squadre locali, ha conosciuto i giocatori e giocatrici locali e ha manifestato un’ottima impressione sul livello dell’hockey giocato. Tuttavia, ha più volte ribadito che le condizioni dei campi su cui adesso si gioca hockey sono troppo brutte e costituiscono un grande problema per lo sviluppo dell’hockey in tanzania, un campo in erba sintetica è un bisogno urgente.

Also the President has got the chance to see a hockey match among children of the Primary Schools of Juhudi and Jica and he was really positively impressed by their passion for the game!!! These children started to play hockey less than 6 months ago, when we introduced hockey in their schools, and they like a lot this sport! they are the future of hockey in Tanzania!
Il Presidente ha anche avuto l’occasione di vedere una partita di hockey tra le due scuole primarie Juhudi e Jica, ed è stato positivamente impressionato dalla loro passione per questo sport! Questi ragazzini hanno iniziato a giocare meno di 6 mesi fa, quando abbiamo introdotto hockey nelle loro scuole. Loro sono i giocatori del futuro della Tanzania!

Political meetings with important local authorities were also in the agenda of the Mr. Ahmed visit in Tanzania. He met the President of Tanzania Olympic Committee and the Deputy Secretary of the Ministry of Sport, Culture, Youth and Information. Moreover he met the Secretary of National Sport Council and the Vice Director of Sport.
Appuntamenti politici con importanti autorità locali sono stati anche inseriti nell’agenda della visita ufficiale in Tanzania di Mr. Ahmed. Durante i tre giorni qui, ha incontrato il Presidente del Comintato Olimpico Tanzaniano e il Vice Segretario Generale del Ministero dello Sport, Informazione, Cultura e Gioventù. Inoltre ha incontrato il Segretario del Concilio Nazionale dello Sport e il Vice Direttore dello Sport.

Hockey development was the main issue discussed in these meetings, especially Mr. Ahmed underlined the need to build a turf in Tanzania to really boost hockey development here, and he asked the support of the Governement for this important step. The local authorities expressed their willing to support hockey development in the next future.We all pray that all the promises and good wishes will turn in concrete actions. Un piano di sviluppo dell’hockey è stato al centro delle discussioni in questi incontri, in particolare Mr. Ahmed ha sottolineato il bisogno di costruire un campo articifiale per dare una spinta efficace allo sviluppo dell’hockey qui in Tanzania, e ha ufficialmente chiesto al Governo di impegnarsi in questo importante passo. Le autorità locali hanno espresso la loro volontà di supportare la promozione di questo sport nel prossimo futuro. Speriamo che tutte queste promesse e buone intenzioni si trasformino in azioni concrete. Grazie presidente per essere venuto a trovarci, karibu tena!
