Premettendo che il video della trasferta di Nairobi è ancora in cantiere, ma arriverà a breve su tutti gli schermi…intanto durante le vacanze natalizie la “Hockey Tanzania Production” ha sfornato un altro gioiellino di video, ormai ci abbiamo preso gusto!
Questa volta, si tratta di un video sugli allenamenti che abbiamo ripreso dopo la trasferta di Nairobi. Già, perchè siccome non ci è bastato Nairobi, e anzi ci è piaciuto un sacco, abbiamo deciso che non si finisce tutto qui, e si chiudono porte e porticine e si va di nuovo tutti a casa, come prima. No. Ci proviamo ad andare avanti, tra mille, o forse di più difficoltà. Cerchiamo di elencarne qualcuna ad esempio: la mancanza di un campo, non dico decente, ma che si possa chiamare campo da hockey e non campo di patate; il poco interesse, per non dire altro, da parte di autorità locali, compagnie, aziende etc.. a sostenere uno sport che non sia il calcio; la lentezza, a volte snervante, della burocrazia (non sempre dovuta alla mole di lavoro); la mancanza di risorse umane (siamo in pochi a fare tutto il lavoro: allenare, raccogliere i fondi, organizzare le trasferte, fare una programmazione, prendere in contatti con le autorità locali e internazionali etc, comunicazione con i giornali, a anche fisioterapista e medico!)
Pochi giorni fa, dal 16 al 18 dicembre, c’è stato un convegno a Dar es Salaam, dal titolo: “International Women Sport Leaders Forum” che dal titolo non si capisce molto, però in sostanza si è parlato di sport come strumento di emancipazione femminile. Ora, il MInistero dello Sport, ha invitato un tot di gente a parlare, da tutta l’Africa. Roba grossa, c’era tanta gente importante, anche da altri paesi europei, fino dalla Svezia sono venuti. A rappresentanza di organizzazioni non governative, associazioni sportive etc… di un sacco di sport. Ora, non è che a nessuno è venuto in mente l’hockey su prato. Non sia mai. Però a volte il destino ci mette lo zampino. Un giorno, passando “per caso” al ministero dello sport al ritorno da Nairobi, insomma in realtà c’ero andata per rompere un pò le scatole e sollecitare i piani alti. Insomma, fatto sta che incontro Juliana, l’assistente del ministro dello sport, mi presento, e inizio a raccontare la nostra storia. A fine incontro, mi invita a parlare al convegno in questione, che si doveva svolgere dopo circa una settimana.
Al convegno ho parlato, ho raccontato la storia, cercando di metterla un pò sul ridere. Gente sorpresa quando ho fatto vedere le foto del campo dove ci alleniamo, della nostra palestra, del nostro spogliatoio. A fine presentazione, tutti hanno applaudito e hanno fatto i complimenti per il lavoro fatto. Già, ok. Ma adesso? Alla presentazione c’erano tutti i grandi capi, dal ministero, al National Sport Council, al Comitato Olimpico. Tutti. Il giorno dopo, eravamo di nuovo sul campo ad allenarci, cambiamenti non ce ne sono stati per adesso. Un sacco di belle parole, complimenti etc..ma con i complimenti non ci pago la trasferta ad andare a Kampala a metà gennaio per giocare l’Africa Championship for clubs, non ci pago i bastoni per iniziare i programmi nelle scuole, non ci pago nemmeno il trasporto alle giocatrici per venire ad allenarsi o per andare a insegnare hockey nelle scuole. E allora che fai? ti inventi di tutto. Pure i calendari, per fare pubblicità e raccogliere un pò di soldi. Con l’obiettivo di costruire nel frattempo un sistema che possa stare in piedi e andare avanti da solo, senza il bisogno che ci sia qualcuno dall’esterno per farlo andare avanti.
Comunque, noi da qui non si molla e ci proviamo di nuovo ad andare avanti, a non chiudere le porte dopo Nairobi, a dire “ok è stato bello, adesso però ognuno ritorna alle proprie faccende”. E c’è speranza che aiuto dalle istituzioni e organizzazioni arrivi.
Comunque, godetevi questo video, scusate la grafica che sarà abbastanza scadente, è perchè l’ho fatto io, che con il computer c’è sempre questo rapporto di incomprensione reciproca, chissà come mai… 🙂

Let me start by saying that the video from our tournament in Nairobi is still a work in progress but it will be ready soon… in the meantime during Christmas holidays our “Tanzania Hockey Production” realized another piece of jewelry.. We’re having sooo much fun!
It’s a video about practices we made after coming back from Nairobi. You know, going to Nairobi wasn’t enough, we loved it, and we decided it won’t be the end of everything, no closing doors and everybody going home, like in the past.. We’ll try to make some step forward, dealing with everyday adversities and different challenges like it has always been; let’s name some of them: the lack of a playing field, I won’t say a decent pitch, but at least something you could call a playing ground and not a potatoes field; lack of interest from local authorities, companies, etc, to support a sport that doesn’t’ go by the name of “football/soccer”; the slow bureaucracy.. (not always due to the “amount” of work to do); lack of human resources (we are few people doing all the work).
Few days ago, from the 16th to the 18th of December, there was a convention in Dar es Salaam entitled: “International Women Sport Leaders Forum”, basically dealing with sport as an instrument for women empowerment. Now, the Sport Ministry invited a lot of peoples to speak, from all over Africa, quite a big deal, also with people from Europe, they came even from Sweden, to represent non-governmental organizations, sport associations, etc.. from many sports; of course no one even thought about hockey.. but you know, sometimes destiny knows better 🙂 One day I was “accidentally” walking by Sport Ministry offices after returning from Nairobi.. well, actually I was there to knock some doors… I met Juliana, Sport Minister Assistant, I introduced myself and told her our story. After that short meeting she invited me to speak to the convention, due to be held the following week. I had my speech at the convention, trying to take it easy.. people was amazed when I showed pictures of our training “pitch”, our “gym” and our “looker room”.. Everybody clapped with sincere enthusiasm. So now? Lots of personalities were in attendance, the Ministry, the National Sport Council, the Olympic Committee. Everybody. Next day we went back at practice field, no changes so far.. lots of nice words, praise, etc.. Unfortunately that won’t be enough to go to Kampala by mid-january to play in the Africa Championship for clubs. That won’t pay the hockey sticks to start an hockey development program in schools, that won’t pay transportation for players or to go teach hockey in the schools. So what do you do? You try to make it work and you keep being creative, even printing and selling calendars.
Anyway, we’re far away from quitting, from shutting everything down after Nairobi and saying just “Well, it was fun..but now everybody can go back to his business” and there is hope that the help from institutions and organization will come.
Enjoy this video, I know it’s not that good, it’s because I made it, my relationship with IT doesn’t get along that easily 🙂
