Anche se Nairobi è una grande metropoli e per moltissime cose assomiglia molto a una qualsiasi capitale europea, ieri e l’altro ieri sembrava di stare in un villaggio sperduto da tutto. In albergo dove siamo alloggiati manca da quasi una settimana l’acqua e per quasi due giorni è mancata l’elettricità, rendendo difficoltosa ogni forma di comunicazione con il mondo esterno. Per cui, come si dice in swahili, “pole sana” (che in swahili vuol dire “mi dispiace”) per il ritardo della cronaca delle partite. Ma, d’altronde siamo pur sempre in Africa, per cui un po’ di ritardo è legittimo! J
Nel frattempo giovedì e venerdì abbiamo giocato due partite molto importanti, una contro il Sud Africa e l’altra contro il Kenya, per aggiudicarsi il terzo e quarto posto.
Le partite le abbiamo perse entrambe, contro il Sud Africa siamo arrivati fino a 25 goal presi contro 0 segnati… Con il Kenya invece abbiamo perso 12 a 0. Sulla cronaca delle partite in sé non c’ molto da dire, con il Sud Africa praticamente non abbiamo superato la metà campo, forse solo quando abbiamo battuto le punizioni dal centro dopo un goal subito, che invece di giocare la palla dietro la buttavamo avanti per togliere un po’ di pressione … J Il Sud Africa, dal canto suo, non ci ha risparmiato nulla perché dovevano segnare più goal possibili contro di noi in caso di differenza reti con il Ghana e il Kenya per aggiudicarsi la finale1°-2° posto. Per cui, vediamola in modo positivo, più di 25 goal non potevano segnarci!

Contro il Kenya, invece, anche se il risultato di 12 a 0 parla chiaro, c’è da dire che non solo siamo arrivate nell’area del Kenya diverse volte, ma abbiamo anche avuto un paio di occasioni per segnare, o almeno di far paura alla difesa avversaria. Il problema è che le keniote sono molto veloci, giocano rapido e mettono pressione. Noi abbiamo fatto quello che potevamo per metterci una pezza in difesa, ma la differenza di livello fisico, tecnico e tattico è ancora enorme.

Ok, questo è quello che dicono i risultati, che la Tanzania in tutto il torneo dell’Africa Cup of Nations, ha preso 68 goal e nel ha segnato uno. I numeri però non dicono che dalla prima partita contro il Ghana fino all’ultima partita contro il Kenya, si sono visti netti miglioramenti della squadra, soprattutto sull’organizzazione in campo, sulla fiducia in se stesse delle ragazze, sull’atteggiamento in campo. Se vogliamo parlare di numeri, poi, diciamo questo. Nella loro seconda partita contro il Kenya, una delle giocatrici del Sud Africa è stata premiata per le 100 presenze in nazionale. Quando ho visto la premiazione, ho pensato che per tutte le giocatrici della Tanzania, quella contro il Ghana di lunedi è stata la prima partita in assoluto a livello internazionale. Per cui, ci stanno tutti i 68 goal subiti e ogni partita è stata una lezione che prendiamo, e ci portiamo a casa.
Visto che abbiamo parlato di numeri, concludo dicendo che comunque, al di là di tutti i risultati, la Tanzania è tra le prime quattro squadre di tutta l’Africa! 😀
Oggi ci saranno le finali maschili e femminili per il 1° e il 2° posto: Ghana -Sud Africa per le donne e Egitto- Sud Africa per gli uomini. Dopo di che premiazione, serata in disco e domani mattina si ritorna a casa!!

Third match : Tanzania vs South Africa & 4rd Match Tanzania vs Kenya
Even if Nairobi is a big metropolis and it’s very similar to any European capital, yesterday and the day before it looked like we were staying lost nowhere. In the hotel where we are staying water is been missing for almost a week and for almost 2 days no electricity as well, preventing any form of communication with the rest of the world. So “pole sana” (which in Swahili means “sorry”) for the delay in reporting news about the tournament. But…we are in Africa so any delay is legitimate!
In the meantime we played 2 very important matches thursday and friday: one against South Africa and the other one, for 3rd ranking position against Kenya.
We lost both matches, against South Africa result was 25 – 0, and against Kenya we lost just 12 – 0. About the matches itself there is not much to say. Against South Africa we didn’t even pass the midfield, or maybe when we were playing penalties after South Africa scores a goal: instead of playing and creating game we were launching the ball to avoid the pressure… J South Arica team, on their hand, didn’t have any mercy for us, actually because they had to score as many goals as possible against us for better positioning in the ranking (goals difference) against Ghana and Kenya and so to achieve the final for 1st or 2nd. So let’s see it positively: they couldn’t score more than 25 goals!
Against the Kenya team, instead, even if the result of 12 – 0 says a lot, it’s a must to specify that actually we reached their box several times and, we even had a couple of goal opportunities or at least to scare their defensors. The thing is that the kenian girls are very fast, they play speedy, and put pressure. We did what we could do for defending as best, but the different levels: technical, physical, and tactic was still big!
So these are the numbers: Tanzania in the whole tournament of Africa Cup of Nations got 68 scores in its goal and scored only one. But numbers don’t well explain how we got better match after match. Mainly in the organization on the field, on the self confidence of the girls, and their behavior on the field. But if we want to talk in numbers: we can say that tuesday before the match against Ghana, one of the players of South Africa has received the award for her 100th game in the national team. When I saw her getting the awarded I thought that for all the players of Tanzania, the one against Ghana was the very first match in international level. So, 68 goals are not that bad and every match was a lesson that we learn and keep for us.
So, talking about numbers I must conclude saying that anyway, despite all facts and results, Tanzania as for now is one of the first four best teams of the Whole African continent! 🙂
Today there will be finals of male and female teams for 1st and 2nd place. Female teams : Ghana -South Africa and male teams Egypt – South Africa. Afterwards there will be the ceremony of awarding, dancing night and tomorrow back home!
